Artifact: Remind 101
Reflection:
Remind is the artifact I selected to use to represent Communication and Collaboration. This is a tool I use to share important information with the students in my classroom, it is also available for parents as well. I created this artifact to keep students up to date on assignments, quizzes and other happenings that take place on my class. I send out Remind 101 messages frequently to keep students informed, but not so often that students no longer read the messages. This is a great tool which can even keep students informed when they are absent. I have different Remind groups for my classes and teams to keep all information relevant for the individual students.
Remind masters the element of Communication and Collaboration under the Standard of Digital Learning Environments was mastered with this artifact in the following way. This format provides students and parents up to date information on the course, including links to PowerPoints and other relevant health related articles that pertain to the topics discussed in class. One great thing about allowing parent access to Remind 101 is their ability to read any articles and materials linked, so they can benefit from the information as well. In the future I plan to expand the information I send on Remind 101 to a full class blog page, to promote collaboration, parents and students are able to communicate. Another form of communication I have just started using with my classes is Twitter. Twitter is very popular with my student population, it would be an easy transition/addition for the students to incorporate.
I gained a new set of knowledge using the Remind 101 app to communicate and collaborate with students and parents about the classes I teach. This allows important dates to be at the forefront of my students’ minds when they are away from school. This Remind app also allows parents to have an increased awareness of what is going on in the classroom. There is not specifically something I would like to change about this artifact, but I would like to add on to the existing communication with a more detailed blog, and possibly a twitter page.
School improvement will be seen through this artifact in the following way. The Remind 101 feature allows students to access important information and prepare for exams and other important assignments. This permits my students to be up to date and study in preparation for exams. One of the visions of our school is improved communication and collaboration with our parents and students, and Remind 101 helps to achieve this vision, thus improving the school. The impact can be evaluated by documenting responses to the Remind 101 posts that you get from students and/or parents. I see this tool as the door to open complete access to my classroom for all stakeholders, students, and parents 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
