I enjoyed Advanced Study of Learning for a few reasons. Although the content of the course was not directly related to incorporating technology in the classroom, the course revealed an opportunity for teachers to approach students with a broader understanding of how to teach them in a way that is conducive to learning, and in some ways that will include technology. It helped me in giving a deeper understanding of how students learn and how the environment and selected tools for teaching effect student learning. Additionally, the format in which the course was offered, gave me ideas on how I can incorporate technology tools we used in this class in my own classroom. Our professor, Nita Paris, allowed for much independent learning, but was always willing to answer any question, enough us along the way, all the while treating us as colleges and with much respect.
There are a few lessons for this class that stuck with me more prominently than the others, one in particular was the module about sleep and dreaming. I believe this stuck out to me more than some of the others because of my health background, and the importance sleep has upon the heath of growing adolescence. IT was interesting to me that things learned in an awake state are continually processed as you sleep. If that is certainly the case, there is a market for using technology while sleeping to continue the learning process and create the ability to be productive while sleeping.
Overall I thought this was a class that added to the overall value of the Instructional Technology program.
